Urban Landscape Storytelling
A workshop spanning two Thursday afternoons in collaboration with BOP Brussels.
We will explore the aesthetics of our own surroundings. Not ‘perfect nature’, but the city with its lines, architecture, concrete, history, visitors and play of light.
The challenge is to create order out of the visual chaos of the street. This is a highly instructive exercise in composition and observation, with links to landscape photography, abstraction and street photography. We will focus on how to use a landscape as a backdrop for a human element or an event, in order to tell a story using one, two or three images. We can choose our own visual language, such as black and white, or fill-in flash, etc.
The programme:
Part 1 (7 May): A brief overview of theory and inspiration, followed by a practical session (we’ll head out together to a location). Part 2 (21 May): The main part: the review session. We’ll look at the results, discuss the selection process (editing) and how to enhance an image during post-processing.
*Every Thursday afternoon from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm at the Brussels Seniors’ Platform.
Participation fee: €70, €55 with the BOp card for the period 2 April to 25 June 2026.
Occasional participation (per session): €9, €7 with the BOp card. Travel (transport & lunch) not included. Coffee, tea or water not included.*

Visueel verhalenverteller & fotograaf. Sander de Wilde (1968) is een in Schaarbeek gevestigde Nederlandse fotograaf met een voorliefde voor het onverwachte beeld. Na zijn studie aan de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (KABK) in Den Haag (1995), bouwde hij een veelzijdige carrière op die reikt van rauwe fotojournalistiek voor internationale kranten tot gepolijste portretten voor het bedrijfsleven.
Inhoud van de workshop(s) Urban Landscape Storytelling
We gaan op zoek naar de esthetiek in onze eigen omgeving. Niet de 'perfecte natuur', maar de stad met zijn lijnen, architectuur, beton, historie, bezoekers en lichtval.
De uitdaging is om orde te scheppen in de visuele chaos van de straat. We focussen op hoe je een landschap gebruikt als podium voor een menselijk element of een gebeurtenis om zo een verhaal te vertellen met één twee of drie beelden. We kunnen hierbij kiezen voor een eigen beeldtaal zoals een keuze voor zwart wit, of fill in flash, etc.
Deel 1 (7 mei): Korte theorie/inspiratie + praktijk (samen op pad op locatie). Deel 2 (21 mei): Het belangrijkste deel: de bespreking. We bekijken de resultaten, bespreken de selectie (editing) en hoe je een beeld sterker maakt in de nabewerking.
